Narciso Rodriguez will be honoured for his achievement in the fashion industry at the El Museo del Barrio gala in May.

The American designer of Cuban heritage will be commended for his success and long-time support of New York’s leading Latino visual arts cultural institution at Cipriani 42nd Street.

There will also be a tribute to philanthropist and El Museo trustee Yaz Hernández and Bacardi USA.
“El Museo strives to keep Latino art and culture alive and Narciso exemplifies that mission with his dedication to incorporating his heritage into every aspect of his work,” said El Museo del Barrio’s executive director, Margarita Aguilar.

The annual benefit gave the lifetime achievement award to fashion photographer Mario Testino last year, to celebrate his 30-year career.
Other past honourees include Plácido Domingo and Emilio and Gloria Estefan, who sat front row at Narciso’s Fall/Winter 12 runway show last month.
Narciso worked at Calvin Klein for many years before launching his own label. He designed the wedding dress of fellow Calvin Klein employee Carolyn Bessette when she married John F. Kennedy Jr. He was the first American to win the best womenswear prize at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards for two years in a row.

His creations have been worn by the likes of US First Lady Michelle Obama, Salma Hayek, Anna Paquin, Claire Danes, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rachel Weisz.
